April News: Undoing the fear of Psi
Happy April! How are you doing?
Isn’t he cute (the dog)? I figured we could use a bit of cuteness right now.
Last weekend, I attended an all-day symposium that I want to talk about. It was about the “Fear of Psi” (psi is another term for psychic). It was hosted by the Parapsychological Association.
Since my work is all about the non-physical reality, I was really excited to attend. I thought we’d be moving the subject forward: talking about exactly why people are afraid, and what concrete steps can be taken to help them get past that.
I left the day disappointed.
Let’s back up for a moment.
What is psi? Well, to put it generally, it’s everything that is *not* physical. It’s the world that we don’t experience through our gross physical senses: sight; hearing; the feeling that comes through our skin; smell; and taste. Everything outside of those five sensory and physical organs is in the realm of psi.
That’s a lot.
Indeed, quantum physicists postulate that it accounts for greater than 99.9% of our reality.
Which is to say that people who only recognize the physical world are only interacting with less than 0.1% of what actually is out there.
Yikes. How very limited.
But we’re not raised—at least, Western white culture is not raised—with an understanding that there’s more out there. Nor are we raised with an understanding of how to interact with it; how to navigate it safely; how to be open to it in a way that enables us to feel supported and uplifted.
The opposite is actually true, right? We’re taught that it’s *not* real. That people who dabble in the psychic or spirit worlds are crazy. The subject is actively denigrated and propagandized to discourage people from even going there.
As well, we’re taught that it’s scary. There are bad and evil things out there in the spirit world, they say. Hollywood of course plays into that stereotype. (And it’s true, but only because there are bad things in every level of reality.)
Adding to the confusion, people are programmed to believe that they’ll be punished if they stray from a certain, strict belief system. Religion, for example, is great at making people think that God will send them to Hell if they acknowledge anything other than “Him.”
So there are a great many reasons why people are “afraid” of psi. And there are of course more than I have listed here.
Overcoming that fear, that innate resistance, that lack of education; that has long been one of my goals. I sneakily make posts on my personal page that gently inform my friends that science has validated the psychic world. I have a long-running propaganda campaign of my own.
Because we need that education. If we finally are open to the fullness of what’s real, then we will finally make way for things such as: spontaneous healing; communication with our dead loved one—in a real-time, two-way conversation directly between you and them; deep healing of our most painful wounds—and rapidly; fulfillment of our life’s purpose; joy in finding that you’re not alone, because you see and feel your spirit family at all times; and so much more.
Can you see why this subject is so important?
We need to get past the fear.
And so that’s what I thought this symposium would help my industry to do. But it didn’t. Hence the disappointment.
What it did, instead, was simply continue talking about the fact that there is fear. That’s it. “Hey, there’s fear. Let’s talk for hours about that.”
It did not drill down into identifying the specific fears. Nor the underlying reasons for them. Nor—and most importantly—did it list solutions to begin attacking the problem.
I’m not from around here, and let me say this: Humans excel at overcomplicating things. They really do. Instead of peeling back the layers to expose the problem, they add more.
So let me peel back some layers for a moment.
Fear is fear. Period. It doesn’t matter if the topic is public speaking or spiders or spirits. It’s all fear.
AND WE KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH FEAR.
So what’s going on with psychic stuff? At least four things:
1. Fear of my own power. I’m afraid of the great power that comes with having a psychic ability. And specifically, I am afraid that I will be unable to control it, and possibly do harm.
2. Fear of someone having power over me. I’m afraid of someone being more powerful than I am, and threatening me with that power, especially if I feel incapable of protecting myself against it, or worse, if I don’t even understand how to protect myself.
3. Fear of the unknown. I have no idea what’s really out there, what all the possibilities are, and that scares me.
4. Fear of being ostracized. If I come out of the closet as being spiritual, I will be kicked out of the tribe, thus left all alone, and I can’t survive by myself.
Okay, those are the fears. Let’s deal with them.
1. Fear of my own power: I need to learn to self regulate. I need to practice using my abilities—starting with really small stuff, so that I get used to it. I need to learn to trust myself. Etcetera.
2. Fear of someone having power over me (women deal with that every day, by the way): I need to learn how to protect myself against whichever threat I truly feel might befall me. I need to understand the nature of that threat, as well as how to avoid it. I need to perhaps find someone who can help me if I am indeed prey to that type of power. Etcetera.
3. Fear of the unknown: I need to learn as much as possible about the subject. I need to open a lot of file folders in my mind for all sorts of weird scenarios, so that if one of them ever presents itself to me, it is less of a surprise. I need to trust that everything will be okay. Etcetera.
4. Fear of being ostracized: I need to admit that expressing my true self is far less painful than suppressing it. I need to seek out the people who are already living outside of the tribe, and acknowledge that I will not, in fact, be alone. I need to have the courage, the strength, and/or the conviction to risk losing the family and friends who refuse to support my authenticity. Etcetera.
And for all fears, I say as a healer, that we need to heal the root cause of that fear. When the fear is healed, then we are relaxed and open.
We also just need to have compassion for the people who are stuck in their closed-minded mental framework; and for the ones who are terrified of the non-physical world because they’ve been conditioned to indeed fear it.
So for them, we need to introduce the topic gradually and in small portions. You cannot talk calculus to someone who is just learning to count. So start at the bottom when you’re having a conversation with someone. Take them only as far as they’re willing to go that day. Then back off. Let them digest what you’ve shared with them. Let them know—in a very detached way—that if they want more, they’re always welcome to come talk with you.
In all of these (tangible!) ways, we will evolve this world.
If I can help you yourself in any way, I’m here for that. You can book a session with me here.
(N.B.: The “Fear of Psi” symposium wasn’t all bad. Some of it was interesting. And I appreciated the effort. But it did little to move the conversation forward, and I myself am here to fix things not talk about them. So it wasn’t a good match.)
(N.B. #2: This conversation has been going on since at least the 1800s. So while we do of course need to talk about problems in order to figure out how best to fix them, no conversation needs to span three centuries.)
