If you feel helpless right now, don’t. Here’s what you can do

I would need several thousand words to describe how I’m feeling right now, as we watch things happen in Afghanistan.

And also as we witness the devastation in Haiti.

I just wanted to say that if you’re feeling the effects of world events, please know you’re not alone. Please take care of yourself, however you need to.

I will also say this:

Trauma is lessened when the person fights back.

If you feel like you want to help somehow, but feel powerless to do so, know that there are things you can indeed do.

Tune in:

Sit quietly in meditation and tune into the situation that’s bothering you.

Ask to be shown the work that you have permission to do.

Then do that work.

Repeat this as many times as you feel called to.

Channel all of your emotions and feelings into the work.

Remember: Anger, used rightly, is power.

If you don’t think you have the skills yet to tune in, then perhaps try.

If that still didn’t work, then sit quietly in meditation.

Broadcast the energy of peace, open-heartedness, or whatever calls to you; send it to the people or place in need.

Repeat this as often as you want.

We are not helpless. We are powerful.

Trauma is lessened when the people fight back.

Let’s fight back.
