What’s “Step 1”?

“Let him who would move the world, first move himself.” ~ Socrates

I first encountered this quote during the training to become a Teacher of Kundalini Yoga, and so I equate it with Yogi Bhajan. Today marks the anniversary of the day he transitioned out of his life on Earth; I suppose this is why it came to mind.

One of Yogiji’s main purposes in life was to inform us that our world would one day descend into chaos. He did this so that we could be prepared to handle it. The time of chaos corresponded with an astrological shift, called the Age of Aquarius. That Age officially began five years ago. Thus, the chaos has begun. Have you noticed it?

One thing that I myself notice now are the people who share freely their opinions of how the world should be; yet who themselves are far from perfect. They judge or emote or otherwise criticize others. But Step 1 is always: Do your own work.

Only once we have faced the darkness, the corruption, the lies, and more that is within our own self…only then may we rightly call out others for such behavior. “Judge not, lest we be judged.”

The teachings have never been about how an imperfect person can change the world by yelling at it. The teachings are rather about how we may change that world by changing the one part of it over which we have total responsibility and control: our own self.

Just a thought.

Each of us has power over 1 seven billionth of humankind. What will you do with that?
