May News: Our mothers’ wounds
Happy May! How are you doing? mothers wounds, maternal wound, mothers day, healing from mother, epigenetic healing
May is of course the month of Mother’s Day, and as the years progress, we increasingly hear that not everyone celebrates it happily. Some actually spend the day grieving. Others avoid it completely due to a toxic or dysfunctional relationship with their mom. And some people are actually celebrating their dad, because it was him who took on that motherly role.
mothers trauma
The relationship that we have with our mother is one of our most impactful and powerful. A mom is supposed to be our source of nurturance, our source of protection, our source of unconditional love. Yet it is not always that way. Moms are humans, and humans are complicated, emotional, and flawed creatures. Humans have baggage. You have yours, I have mine, and your mom had hers.

The thing to note here is that that baggage of our mothers affected us while we were growing up (and still might). This is true regardless of whether she knew it or not, so there’s no judgment here.

But not only did our mom’s traumas affect us—her mom’s did as well. On the tangible plane, her mom hurt her, and the impact of that caused her to somehow hurt us. Genetically, our genes have been changed by the hard times that our ancestors went through, so our own bodies are now acting in accordance with that past programming. And energetically, by virtue of the fact that energy transfers from one person to another, the energy of our ancestors’ wounds is vibrating within us right this moment.

And here’s the really key thing: Those wounds might be directing your life. But you may not realize it because, guess what? When it’s inside of us, we think it is us; we think it’s ours. Those thoughts, that habit, the preference for one thing versus another. The total avoidance of certain situations that make us uncomfortable but we just can’t put our finger on why. That might not be you.

Here’s a story to illustrate how our mothers’ wounds—and by extension our ancestral wounds—direct our lives:
healing from mother
All my life, I have never wanted to have children. I mean, I actively didn’t want to have them. There are many different reasons for this, but here’s one of the strongest: Having grown up reading true crime stories, I know that bad things happen in this world; and when bad things happen to us, who do we cry out for? That’s right: Our moms. And I never wanted to become a mom, and have my child—especially a daughter—be preyed upon, cry out for me, and I couldn’t find her or help her.
.
I’ve carried that very specific idea inside of me for decades.

And then in 2023, I was astounded to realize that this energy wasn’t mine. It was my nana’s. Because Nana had been in that exact position. And she passed her terror, and that horror, down to me.

Here’s the good news: The moment I realized what was happening, I tuned in and healed that energy. The best news: I healed it not only for me but for her. I set my Nana free.
.
And since then, I no longer carry that terror, which featured regularly in my thoughts. I also can look at and speak about that kind of horror with greater ease than I was ever able to do.
.
So this is the importance of a) knowing that we carry wounds that are not ours; b) becoming free of those wounds for our own sake; and c) setting free our lineage as well.
.
On the latter, I have had the great honour of witnessing entire ancestral lines become free of hundreds—and even thousands—of years of bondage to a source of pain. And if you have children of your own, then this type of work can remove the wound from them, as well, since anything you received will likely have passed down to them.
