I *am* the change, and I’m just waiting for the world to catch up

I’m not really a fan of people telling me what to do. Especially if they are speaking from a self-exalted position, telling me to be this or do that.  i am the change

Anyone who speaks *at* us, without including themselves in their own message, still hasn’t gotten it yet; hasn’t embodied their own preachings.

So when it comes to Mahatma Gandhi’s popular quote “be the change,” I don’t pay attention.

My focus is on myself. My focus is on becoming the change I wish to see in the world around me.

I worked hard–very very hard–to be able to say that I am now the type of change that I wish to see in the world.

I’m not perfect, and I’m not all of the way there. But I’m comfortable with where I am, especially for a 40-year-old.

I look at the world these days and really wonder what’s wrong with some of it. How are the people in charge of our lives such…underdeveloped characters? So devoid of maturity? So lacking in basic human kindness and decency and love?

I don’t get it.

I look around and feel very detached from most of our reality right now. It’s the figurative “separation of worlds,” I think.

So, I find that I’m just standing amongst a small group of others, us already being the change we all need to see, and just wondering–as you, too, might be wondering–when the rest of the world will catch up.

You know, so we can really, finally get things done.
